Dining Out For Life

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Come join us at Padres and help support Wachovia Dining Out For Life on Thursday, April 30

More Than 140 Valley Restaurants and Sponsors Join 2009 Wachovia Dining Out For Life on Thurs., April 30 Supporting HIV/AIDS Services

PHOENIX (April 13) - On Thurs., April 30, more than 140 Valley restaurants will help raise $200,000 for local HIV and AIDS services and programs during the 2009 Wachovia Dining Out For Life. This one-day event encourages restaurants and other businesses statewide to donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit programs and services provided by Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS including clinical trials, and prevention and wellness programs for teens, men and women.

are”With the help of the 2008 Dining Out for Life event, Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS saved Arizona taxpayers an estimated $16 million in avoided hospital stays,” said Carol Poore, president and CEO of Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS. “Through our community prevention and education initiatives, we reach out to more than 25,000 individuals annually who are at-risk for obtaining and transmitting HIV and AIDS. Dining Out for Life is a significant part of our fundraising effort and helps us to provide this level of outreach to the community. We are grateful to be involved.”

Across the United States, more than 3,500 restaurants in 55 cities will donate a generous percent of daily proceeds to an AIDS service provider. Money raised in each city stays within that city for local programs. Last year, Phoenix ranked seventh in the U.S. for total dollars raised.

Will the Real Zorro Please Stand Up!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You knew the real Zorro was IRISH, right?
“…the secret of the dashing Hispanic swordsman was that he was an Irish gentleman of noble birth named William Lamport, born in 1615 in County Wexford. William hailed from a Catholic family, and left Ireland during the confederate conflict as a result of oppressive English rule. He worked for a while as a privateer, attacking Englishmen merchantmen of Cromwell’s Commonwealth. In 1643 he enlisted in one of the three Irish regiments in Spanish service (O’Neill, O’Donnell and Fitzgerald) to fight against the French forces in Spanish Flanders. He was commended for bravery and entered Spanish Royal service.
Assuming the name “Guillen Lombardo” he went to the then-Spanish colony of Mexico. Once in Mexico he developed a sympathy for the poor and native Indians. He lived amongst them studying astrology and their healing skills. For this he came to the notice of the Spanish Inquisition, which. . .” READ THE FULL ARTICLE
Saint Patrick’s Day
Thursday, April 30th, 2009
Greetings!
We know: St. Pat’s Day is an Irish-inspired excuse to party hardy.  So why go Mexican?  Seriously, why is Padre’s the best place to bring your friends on Tuesday, March 17th?  Because we’ve got the best of both worlds, just how you like it.
Our bartenders have been challenging each other for weeks to invent cool new green cocktails to complement the green beer we’ll be serving all night.  Our kitchen’s cooking up the best corned beef and cabbage in town.  And we’ve got Zorro in our corner (you knew he was Irish, right?).
Join us Tuesday evening and we’ll make it a night to remember, as only Padre’s can.  Ample free parking; easy good times.
